Project Update – Work Progressing (posted June 24, 2021)

Completed activities to date include demolition and removal of existing facilities, excavation of the site, and installation of a temporary bypass pumping system. A drainage culvert and headwall have also been completed.

Work is progressing on a new retaining wall at the base of the hillside abutting the station, and several underground elements are being installed, including the wet well pumps, valve vault, and force main. The project is expected to be complete by early fall.

We will take all reasonable measures to minimize construction impacts—including noise, odor, dust, and temporary traffic, parking, and property access impacts. Please be alert for traffic controls and exercise caution at all times around construction activities. Additionally, we will work closely with affected property owners before and during this work.

Project Update Work Continues (posted May 18, 2021)

Construction continues at the Capitola Pump Station. To keep the sewer in service during the work, a temporary bypass pumping system has been installed to convey wastewater around the section of sewer that is being worked on. Because the bypass pumping system must operate around the clock, the construction contractor will monitor it at all times.

In the coming weeks, work to install new retaining walls around the pump station will begin, including placement of structural elements into the ground and excavation. For your safety, please be aware that construction vehicles will be entering and exiting the site during daytime work hours.
