Free Tours Offered at the Sacramento Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant

Fascinating “behind the scenes” glimpse into sophisticated facility operations

Sacramento, CA – Free tours of the massive Sacramento Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant will be offered on specific Thursdays and Saturdays between April and October 2016.

“These tours are educational and engaging for our customers, since few people in our region actually understand what happens to their wastewater once it leaves their homes and businesses,” said Regional San District Engineer Prabhakar Somavarapu. “Our guests are amazed about the treatment process, and they leave the tour with a newfound understanding of how we keep the community and our environment healthy and safe.”

The two and a half hour tour includes an overview of the wastewater treatment process and operations with experts, and examines the strict environmental compliance steps required by state and federal regulators. A walking tour then takes visitors behind the scenes through the Plant’s water quality testing laboratory, process areas, and control center – indoor and outdoor facilities not normally open to the public.

Advance registration is required and space is limited. Tour dates and a reservation form are located at www.regionalsan.com/tour-treatment-plant, or by calling 916-876-6120 during regular business hours.

Tour attendees must be 16 years of age or older. Moderate walking and stairs should be expected during tours.

Regional San provides wastewater conveyance and treatment services to residential, industrial and commercial customers throughout unincorporated Sacramento County; the cities of Citrus Heights, Elk Grove, Folsom, Rancho Cordova, Sacramento and West Sacramento; and the communities of Courtland and Walnut Grove.
