Project Update – Work Continues (posted June 14, 2021)

Demolition and removal of existing facilities are progressing steadily and work to elevate the ground surface above the 100-year flood plain at the project site continues. In the coming weeks, SASD’s contractors will begin installation of structural beams for new retaining walls and underground facilities. During this time, the surrounding community can expect additional heavy equipment onsite and increased construction noise. Work will be performed between 6:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. and is expected to be complete by late July.

While most construction activities will occur inside the project site, please use caution around the facility and on the park road system as construction equipment will be utilizing these roads to access the station and deliver materials. We will take all reasonable measures to minimize construction impacts—including noise, odor, dust, and temporary traffic, parking, and property access impacts. Please be alert for traffic controls and exercise caution at all times around construction activities.

Project Update – Work Continues (posted May 17, 2021)

Construction is underway at the Sailor Bar Pump Station. Demolition and removal of existing facilities are progressing steadily and work to elevate the ground above the 100-year flood plain at the project site continues. The contractors will be using the Illinois Avenue entrance and connecting fire roads to deliver construction materials and supplies to the job site.

To keep the sewer in service during the work, a temporary bypass pumping system is being installed to convey wastewater around the section of sewer that is being worked on. Beginning tonight, critical work to connect the bypass system to the existing sewer system will be performed. This work will occur during the hours of 10 p.m. and 6 a.m. when the sewer system experiences low flows and is expected to be complete by Thursday morning.

We will take all reasonable measures to minimize construction impacts—including noise, odor, dust, and temporary traffic, parking, and property access impacts. Please be alert for traffic controls and exercise caution at all times around construction activities.
