Project Update – Phase 2 Work Complete (updated December 17, 2020)

Phase 2 of the Mission Trunk Sewer Project is now complete. Starting in late December, crews will work to dismantle the sewer bypass system along Winding Way and Pasadena Avenue, which will take a few weeks. Final paving will occur sometime in early 2021 when weather conditions permit. Thank you to all the residents and propery owners impacted by Phase 2 construction. We appreciate your patience!

Project Update – Dena Way Activities (updated November 2, 2020)

Upcoming construction activities on Dena Way near the intersection with Cypress Avenue include the following:

Cured-In-Place-Pipe (CIPP) Lining—starting early November and continuing for 2 weeks:

What to Expect: In early November, SASD’s contractors will erect a laydown area that spans about 150 feet over the insertion manhole, which will remain in place for approximately two weeks. This area will be used to prepare and insert the CIPP liner through the manhole and into the sewer pipe. Contractors will be using construction equipment (e.g., forklift, boiler, and generators) throughout the process. Once the CIPP lining begins, crews must work 24/7 to complete the process, and some weekend work may be necessary. Part of Dena Way will be closed to through-traffic during this intensive work.

We will take all reasonable measures to minimize construction impacts—including noise, odor, dust, and temporary traffic, parking, and property access impacts. Please look for cones, flaggers, and construction signs, and exercise caution at all times around construction activities. Additionally, we will work closely with affected property owners before and during this work.

Project Update – Manhole Work (posted September 29, 2020)

Upcoming construction activities on and near Bonnie Jean Way include the following:

Manhole Installation—starting early October and continuing for 3 weeks:

  • What to Expect: A new manhole will be installed on Bonnie Jean Way in the western sidewalk near the first and second driveways from Winding Way. Contractors will be using heavy equipment (e.g., excavator, dump truck, and loader) throughout the process. Work will occur from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday, and some weekend work may be necessary. During construction hours, Bonnie Jean Way will be reduced to one lane of traffic along the work zone. To ensure public safety, pedestrian access to this section of the sidewalk will be prohibited during construction.

Manhole Removal—starting mid to late October and continuing for 2 weeks:

  • What to Expect: A manhole structure in the westbound bike lane on Winding Way at Bonnie Jean will be removed. Contractors will be using heavy equipment (e.g., excavator, dump truck, and loader) throughout the process. Work will occur from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday and some weekend work may be necessary. During this intensive work, traffic control measures will be implemented near the construction area.

We will take all reasonable measures to minimize construction impacts—including noise, odor, dust, and temporary traffic, parking, and property access impacts. Please look for cones, flaggers, and construction signs, and exercise caution at all times around construction activities.

Project Update – Bypass System Installation (posted September 3, 2020)

Contractors are currently working on assembling and installing the temporary sewer bypass system (see map). This system will allow SASD to ensure uninterrupted sewer service for customers during the sewer rehabilitation work.

An equipment staging area has been set up in the American River College parking lot near the intersection of College Oak Drive and Winding Way. This staging area is expected to be in place through October and will be used to store equipment and materials and to assemble the bypass pipe segments.

Active work will be performed Monday through Friday between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m., although night or weekend work may be necessary. SASD’s contractors will make every effort to minimize noise and other possible impacts, such as dust and odor. Please look for cones, flaggers, and construction signs, and exercise caution at all times around construction activities. Access to properties will be maintained at all times.
