Sewer Pipeline Construction Complete – posted Sept. 29, 2023

The Sacramento Area Sewer District (SacSewer) has completed the sewer pipeline installation for the Highlands Sewer Relief Project. 

We would like to thank everyone in the community for their patience during installation of the new sewer pipelines, which will improve system performance, increase sewer capacity, and help ensure reliable sewer service in the decades to come.

Ongoing Pump Station Work: Work to finish major upgrades of the SacSewer pump station on Larry Way is nearing completion. The pump station on Don Julio Boulevard behind Pacific High School will then be decommissioned and removed because it is no longer needed, thanks to the new improvements. 

Neighborhood Paving Update – posted September 8, 2023

The Sacramento County Department of Transportation will be doing repaving work on Claussen Way between Don Julio Boulevard and Larry Way on September 14-15 between 7 a.m. and 6 p.m. Traffic will be detoured during this work. Sewer Project Update – posted July 26, 2023

All major sewer pipeline installation work is now complete. Pump station work will continue until later in the year.

In early August, contractors will be restoring pavement on neighborhood streets where sewer work has been performed. On-street parking may be temporarily restricted, and “No Parking” signs will be posted before the work begins. Through-traffic may be detoured around the work area. Sewer Project Update – posted March 17, 2023

Construction crews with heavy equipment continue to install new sewer pipes and manholes on Stephen Drive between Channing Drive and Lila Lane. When construction reaches the area in front of the school, work hours will be temporarily extended to 6 pm during April 18-20, April 25-27, and May 1-4 to help expedite construction activity through the area.

Pump Station Project Update – updated March 14, 2023

A temporary 24/7 road closure is in place on Larry Way between Claussen Way and Dundee Drive to perform work on the SacSewer pump station site located between 6113 Larry Way and 6121 Larry Way. The exact timing of the reopening of the road depends on weather delays.

What to Expect: On-street parking will not be allowed within the closure area, but residents will still be able to access homes and driveways. Through-traffic will be detoured, and the south sidewalk will be closed. Crews will coordinate directly with residents if property access is going to be temporarily impacted. We will do everything possible to minimize other impacts, but some noise, vibration, and dust is unavoidable.

Construction crews with heavy equipment are upsizing sewer pipes on Gayle Way between South Haven Drive and Georgia Drive, and then on Georgia Drive between Gayle and A Street. This section of work is anticipated to be complete in late April, weather permitting.

Sewer Project Update – posted February 1, 2023

Construction crews with heavy equipment will soon be installing new sewer pipes and manholes on Stephen Drive between Channing Drive and Lila Lane. Work will progress from east to west (from Channing to Lila). This intensive phase of work is anticipated to take about 2-3 months to complete, weather permitting.

Resident Access: Residents will be able to access their homes and driveways at all times. If property access will be temporarily impacted for any reason, crews will notify those residents in advance.

Daycare/Park/Church Access: Users and staff of these facilities can continue to use Stephen Drive. Crews may redirect vehicles to alternative parking or pickup/dropoff locations when work is being done in front of these facilities.

School Access: Parents are advised to drop off and pick up students on the north side of the school, whenever possible (via Don Julio and Bolivar). However, before 8 a.m., students can still be dropped off on the south side (at least until the final phase of the work in front of the school). Bus routes may be adjusted by the schools, at their discretion. Please refer to any specific instructions provided by the schools.

  • Channing Way between Thomas Drive and Watt Avenue (anticipated to be complete in mid-December, weather permitting)
  • Channing Way between Larry Way and Stephen Drive (anticipated to be complete in mid-January, weather permitting)

A temporary road closure will again be necessary on Larry Way between Claussen Way and Dundee Drive to perform work on the SacSewer pump station site located between 6113 Larry Way and 6121 Larry Way. Construction crews continue intensive work on the SacSewer pump station site between 6113 Larry Way and on 6121 Larry Way (between Claussen Way and Dundee Drive). To maximize safety and expedite project completion, occasional road closures may be required at this location.

What to Expect: As always, we will do everything possible to minimize impacts, but some intermittent noise, vibration, and dust is unavoidable. Construction crews are installing new sewer pipes and manholes on Larry Way between Claussen Way and Dundee Drive. Because this is one of the most intensive parts of the project, a 24/7 road closure at this location is anticipated through early August.

Temporary Restrictions: Through-traffic will be detoured around the work area, and the south sidewalk will be closed temporarily (pedestrians will be safely routed around the work zone via the north sidewalk). Starting the week of May 16, construction crews with heavy equipment are expected to begin installing new sewer pipes and manholes on several streets around Larchmont Park:

  • Floral Drive (between Cantel Way and Ridley Way)
  • Ridley Way
  • Thomas Drive (between Ridley Way and Channing Drive).

This work is now anticipated to be done by mid-July.

Starting the week of March 28, construction crews with heavy equipment will begin installing new sewer pipes on Cantel Way, starting at Elkhorn Boulevard and proceeding south to Floral Drive. Through-traffic will be detoured during the work, which is expected to last 3 to 4 weeks. Residents will still have access.

Temporary Parking Restrictions: On-street parking will not be allowed in the work zones. “No Parking” signs will be posted before the work begins.

Resident Access: During daytime work hours, detours will redirect through-traffic, but residents will still be able to get to their homes and driveways. Crews will coordinate with any residents whose property access may be impacted.

Project Update - updated March 23, 2022

Elkhorn Boulevard Night Work: Sewer installation on Elkhorn Boulevard is now underway. Night work is scheduled to occur on Elkhorn Boulevard at the intersection of Cantel Way from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. starting Sunday evening, March 20, and ending on or before Monday morning, March 28 (excluding Friday and Saturday nights).

This night work is necessary to connect new sewer pipes on the north side of Elkhorn to pipes that will be installed on Cantel Way in March/April. During the night work, residents may experience some noise, dust, and vibration. Traffic controls will be in place to safely redirect traffic around the construction zone.

Sewer installation will then proceed south on Cantel Way to Floral Drive.

Completed Work: Installation of new sewer pipes on the following streets is now complete (see map for reference):

  • Channing Drive between Thomas Drive and Melrose Drive
  • Melrose Drive between Channing Drive and Claussen Way
  • Claussen Way between Melrose Drive and Larry Way 
  • Larry Way between Claussen Way and Dundee Drive

Project Update - posted January 23, 2022

Work Continues on Claussen Way: Sewer construction activities on Claussen Way continue southward to Larry Drive (see map). Work will cross Don Julio the week of January 24. On-street parking will be restricted in work zones (signs will be posted before work begins).

Channing Drive Road Closures: Closures are in place in the following locations to allow crews to bore under storm drain channels to accommodate upcoming sewer installation:

  • Channing Drive between Larry Way and Sunday Drive: Starting the week of January 24, sewer construction crews and heavy equipment will begin working on Channing Drive between Larry Way and Sunday Drive. This part of Channing Drive will be closed to through-traffic during the work, which is expected to last a few weeks.
  • Channing Drive between Juneau Way and Melrose Drive: Crews continue to work on this section of Channing, which has been closed to through-traffic since December.

Temporary Parking Restrictions: On-street parking will not be allowed on these sections of Channing Way during the work. 

Detours and Property Access: Detours are being used to redirect through-traffic, and crews are coordinating directly with residents within the work area regarding property access. Doorhangers are also being used to communicate with other nearby residents.

Project Update – Construction Begins – posted November 24, 2021

In December, crews and heavy equipment are starting sewer construction activities on Channing Drive, continuing to Melrose Drive, Claussen Way, and Larry Drive (see map). On-street parking will be restricted in work zones (signs will be posted before work begins), and temporary daytime road closures will be in effect on Channing between Juneau Way and Melrose, as well as on Melrose between Channing and Claussen. Residents in the active work areas can still get to their homes and driveways, but detours for through-traffic are necessary. Please follow detour signage to get around the construction work.

Construction proceeds in segments, with each segment typically taking several days to complete, depending on the depth of excavation. Doorhangers are being used to communicate with residents, and crews may also coordinate directly with homeowners, when necessary.
