Post

This section provides periodic updates on construction activities for the Highlands Sewer Relief Project. The latest updates are listed first:

Project Update – posted August 10, 2022

Construction crews with heavy equipment are installing new sewer pipes and manholes on Dundee Drive. Work between Belva Way and Scotia Way will begin soon. This section of work is anticipated to be complete by early September. Crews will then continue working northward on Scotia Way.

Temporary Restrictions: Through-traffic will be detoured around the work area during construction, and some sidewalk sections will be closed temporarily. On-street parking will not be allowed in the work zones, and “No Parking” signs will be posted before the work begins.

Resident Access: Residents will be able to access their homes and driveways at all times. If access will be temporarily impacted for any reason, crews will notify those residents in advance.

For any urgent questions or issues, call (916) 531-3911 during work hours or (916) 875-6730 after hours.

Project Update – posted May 31, 2022, updated July 25, 2022

Construction crews are installing new sewer pipes and manholes on Larry Way between Claussen Way and Dundee Drive. Because this is one of the most intensive parts of the project, a 24/7 road closure at this location is anticipated through early August.

Temporary Restrictions: Through-traffic will be detoured around the work area, and the south sidewalk will be closed temporarily (pedestrians will be safely routed around the work zone via the north sidewalk). On-street parking will not be allowed within the work area, and “No Parking” signs will be posted before the work begins.

Resident Access: Residents adjacent to the work area will still be able to access their homes and driveways. Crews will coordinate directly with residents if property access will be temporarily impacted.

We appreciate your patience! For any urgent questions or issues, call (916) 531-3911 during work hours or (916) 875-6730 after hours.

Project Update - posted March 28, 2022

Starting the week of March 28, construction crews with heavy equipment will begin installing new sewer pipes on Cantel Way, starting at Elkhorn Boulevard and proceeding south to Floral Drive. Through-traffic will be detoured during the work, which is expected to last 3 to 4 weeks. Residents will still have access.

Temporary Parking Restrictions: On-street parking will not be allowed in the work zones. “No Parking” signs will be posted before the work begins.

Resident Access: During daytime work hours, detours will redirect through-traffic, but residents will still be able to get to their homes and driveways. Crews will coordinate with any residents whose property access may be impacted.

For any urgent questions or issues, call (916) 995-0899 during work hours or (916) 875-6730 after hours.

Project Update - updated March 23, 2022

Elkhorn Boulevard Night Work: Sewer installation on Elkhorn Boulevard is now underway. Night work is scheduled to occur on Elkhorn Boulevard at the intersection of Cantel Way from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m. starting Sunday evening, March 20, and ending on or before Monday morning, March 28 (excluding Friday and Saturday nights).

This night work is necessary to connect new sewer pipes on the north side of Elkhorn to pipes that will be installed on Cantel Way in March/April. During the night work, residents may experience some noise, dust, and vibration. Traffic controls will be in place to safely redirect traffic around the construction zone.

Sewer installation will then proceed south on Cantel Way to Floral Drive.

Completed Work: Installation of new sewer pipes on the following streets is now complete (see map for reference):

  • Channing Drive between Thomas Drive and Melrose Drive
  • Melrose Drive between Channing Drive and Claussen Way
  • Claussen Way between Melrose Drive and Larry Way
  • Larry Way between Claussen Way and Dundee Drive

Follow-up work and repaving in these areas is forthcoming.

For any urgent questions or issues, call (916) 995-0899 during work hours or (916) 875-6730 after hours. For more information about the project, please visit sacsewer.com/highlands or call the project hotline at (916) 876-SASD (7273).

Project Update - posted January 23, 2022

Work Continues on Claussen Way: Sewer construction activities on Claussen Way continue southward to Larry Drive (see map). Work will cross Don Julio the week of January 24. On-street parking will be restricted in work zones (signs will be posted before work begins).

Channing Drive Road Closures: Closures are in place in the following locations to allow crews to bore under storm drain channels to accommodate upcoming sewer installation:

  • Channing Drive between Larry Way and Sunday Drive: Starting the week of January 24, sewer construction crews and heavy equipment will begin working on Channing Drive between Larry Way and Sunday Drive. This part of Channing Drive will be closed to through-traffic during the work, which is expected to last a few weeks.
  • Channing Drive between Juneau Way and Melrose Drive: Crews continue to work on this section of Channing, which has been closed to through-traffic since December.

Temporary Parking Restrictions: On-street parking will not be allowed on these sections of Channing Way during the work.

Detours and Property Access: Detours are being used to redirect through-traffic, and crews are coordinating directly with residents within the work area regarding property access. Doorhangers are also being used to communicate with other nearby residents.

Please be alert for any traffic controls or safety measures. For any urgent questions or issues, call (916) 995-0899 during work hours or (916) 875-6730 after hours.

Project Update – Construction Begins – posted November 24, 2021

In December, crews and heavy equipment are starting sewer construction activities on Channing Drive, continuing to Melrose Drive, Claussen Way, and Larry Drive (see map). On-street parking will be restricted in work zones (signs will be posted before work begins), and temporary daytime road closures will be in effect on Channing between Juneau Way and Melrose, as well as on Melrose between Channing and Claussen. Residents in the active work areas can still get to their homes and driveways, but detours for through-traffic are necessary. Please follow detour signage to get around the construction work.

Construction proceeds in segments, with each segment typically taking several days to complete, depending on the depth of excavation. Doorhangers are being used to communicate with residents, and crews may also coordinate directly with homeowners, when necessary.

Please be alert for any traffic controls or safety measures. For any urgent questions or issues, call (916) 995-0899 during work hours or (916) 875-6730 after hours.
