Creek Protection Project: Project Impacts

Information Hotline number: 916-876-SASD (7273)

Due to heavy erosion, the pier has
fallen away from the pipe at Site 27.

Most construction work will occur in the areas adjacent to the waterways, thereby limiting impacts to private lands; however, as with most construction projects, some residential impacts can occur. Traffic and pedestrian controls will be implemented at all times to ensure the safety of the public and contractor. Special efforts will be made not to disturb natural resources and to minimize impacts to the surrounding neighbors.

Residential Areas:
During scheduled work this spring and summer, residents and businesses adjacent to the designated sites may experience lane closures and construction related noise. Access to area residences and businesses will remain open at all times. Construction work for all five sites (which is restricted to specific times of the year due to regulatory requirements) will include typical construction related impacts such as noise, odor and lane closures along affected streets. Signage will be posted adjacent to each construction site, prior to the beginning of construction, promoting the project website and information hotline for more details on the project. Special signage has been created and will be posted at designated locations to notify pedestrian and bicyclists of impacts and temporary closure of park entrances during construction.

SASD's Construction Liaison, John Walton, has been out on-site at each location during construction proactively talking with area residents, businesses and property owners to ensure their awareness of the construction activities and address any issues as they arise. To date, the coordination and interactions with the community have been very positive.

Coordination with neighboring residents and properties will continue throughout the project via letters or flyers, telephone discussions and in-person meetings. Upon request, presentations to key stakeholders will also continue to be scheduled. Mr. Walton will continue to engage with property owners, respond to any issues that arise and work closely with SASD's Public Affairs Office to distribute appropriate and updated information to the public.

Sewer service interruptions are not expected; however, if any sewer service interruptions are required, notice will be given to residents at least 48 hours in advance of such interruption via door hangers.

Environmental Concerns:
SASD has also been working closely with multiple regulatory agencies such as the Army Corps of Engineers, the Department of Fish and Game and the Central Valley Regional Water Quality Control Board to ensure impacts to the waterways and surrounding areas are minimized. Site investigations have been performed at all locations to determine if any special species or habitats are in the area or if any cultural resources are present that need to be protected.

During construction, specific mitigation requirements outlined by the regulatory agencies will also be monitored and adhered to.

A Word on Safety...
Because construction work may require the use of heavy machinery, area residents and guests should use caution when traveling or walking near construction areas. During construction, the public is encouraged to report any unusual or suspicious activity to the project team by contacting Mr. Walton at (916) 599-7063.
